With all the preparation that goes into “getting married,” don’t forget to take these just-as-important steps around “being married.”
You have 31 days
To add your new spouse to your benefits.
Before You Tie the Knot
Planning for Forever, Preparing for What-If
Preparing to get married may involve more than scouting wedding venues and drafting guest lists. Sometimes it means securing your future with a prenup or trust agreement. For these services and others, Seagate’s Legal Plan provides access to experienced attorneys and financial counselors—for just a few dollars each paycheck. Be sure to elect this plan during Open Enrollment.

Before You Settle In
Benefits Enrollment Deadline for Newlyweds
Planning to cover your new spouse with your benefits? You have up to 31 days from the day you were married to enroll them in Seagate benefits. If you miss this opportunity, you’ll have to wait until the next Open Enrollment.
Contribute More to Your HSA with a Spouse
While you’re at it, this is also a good time to review your annual Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution. Now that you’re married, you may be able to sock away twice as many tax-free dollars as you could as an individual. Plus, you can use this money to pay for eligible health care expenses for yourself and your spouse, regardless of whether or not you’re covering your spouse with your Seagate benefits.
Take a Moment to Update Your Beneficiaries
Even in the happiest of times, it’s always good to be prepared for the unexpected. To be sure your loved ones are provided for, confirm your beneficiaries are up to date for the following:
- Life insurance (US Benefits Enrollment/Changes > Enroll Now! > Select Benefits at left > Scroll to life insurance and click the edit button next to beneficiaries),
- 401(k) account (401k.com > Profile > Beneficiaries), and
- Health Savings Account (Myaccounts.hsabank.com > Accounts > Profile Summary).
